In Tribute

At Least A While...

Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade all of that from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take away our lives, but they'll never take our freeeedoooomm.

TOP 100 LABOR DAY ANALYSIS FINAL WORD

I had a great time today listening to 91.3 WYEP's top 100 list while hanging out with family and BBQing. After looking at the list, at least 50% of what I loved in the 90's made it onto the list. From analyzing the top 100, the top ten bands of the 1990's appear to come in like this:
Top Ten Bands of the 90’s
  1. Nirvana
  2. R.E.M.
  3. Pearl Jam
  4. Dave Matthews Band
  5. U2
  6. Counting Crows
  7. Alanis Morrissette
  8. The Cranberries
  9. Radiohead
  10. Smashing Pumpkins
I am looking forward to revisiting or even discovering in a few cases, music that either did not resignate with me a decade ago, or that I just missed (where was I when Portishead was impressing so many people?).

Of course, there is some music that I think could have made it onto the list and perhaps it is music that has either been overlooked or just didn't resignate with folks a decade ago. So, below are my top ten most overlooked songs of the 1990's (they didn't make it onto the list). I would love to hear from others about what you loved in the 1990's that could be added to the list.
  1. Black Crowes- Remedy (From the album Southern Harmony and Musical Companion)
  2. Crash Test Dummies- Afternoons and Coffee Spoons (From the album God Shuffled His Feet)
  3. Lenny Kravitz- Are You Gonna Go My Way (From the album Are You Gonna Go My Way)

  9. Ben Harper- I Shall Not Walk Alone (The Will to Live)
  10. Moby- Run On (From the album Play)

91.3's Labor Day Top 100

There is a ton of great music in the top 100 list voted in by US, the listeners of Pittsburgh and the 91.3 listening community worldwide, and compiled by 91.3 YWEP. Once again, WYEP has proved that The Music Matters.
